Officer Henry Caraballo was shot and killed during a traffic stop.
While observing a suspicious vehicle, Officer Caraballo and Officer Henry Spivey, followed the suspect out of the parking lot of Lil Adens Store in Pearson, Georgia, onto the 441 North where they decided to pull the vehicle over. As Officer Caraballo got out of his patrol car, while Officer Spivey was calling in the tag, he approached the vehicle on the drivers side and when he bent down to talk to the driver he was shot in the cheek by a 38 revolver. The driver fled the scene and was pursued by other officers to a house on Walker St. in Douglas, Georgia where he was killed during the conflict. It was later discovered that the suspect was wanted for rape and other charges.
Officer Caraballo had previously served with the United States Navy and is survived by his wife and daughter, his mother, and two sisters.
