Officer Jesse Parris was shot and killed after responding to a call of a man with a gun. Officer Parris encountered the suspect a block away from the address he was responding to. Officer Parris was shot once in the chest and killed as he attempted to arrest the suspect.
On August 1, 1979, the suspect, 57, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and received a 10 year suspended sentence and placed on probation.
Office Parris had served with the agency for 21 years.
