William Ligon Acker

Patrolman William Acker succumbed to injuries sustained four days earlier when he was struck by an automobile at the intersection of Main Street at Market Street.

He had been standing on a safety island in the center of the roadway when he inadvertently stepped backward into the path of an oncoming car. He was taken to a local hospital where he died on Christmas Day.

Patrolman Acker had served with the Anderson Police Department for 22 years. He was survived by his wife, two sons, seven grandchildren, and two brothers.
