Reflections for K9 Nyx

The First & The Last
The first to sense the hostility of a suspect,
The first to react to protect his master,
The first to enter where danger lurks,
The first to detect the hidden intruder.
The first to take action against violence.
The first to sense his master’s joy.
The first to know his master’s sorrow or fear.
The first to give his life in defense of his master.
The last to be forgotten by those who work with others like him.
They know him as a “Partner”, not just an animal.

Dear Chief of Police Carla Redd:
I was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Police K-9 Nyx, your loyal and brave canine. I can only imagine how difficult this time must be for you and your fellow officers at the Rockford Police Department. Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your esteemed K-9 Nyx.
It is evident that Police K-9 Nyx was not just a highly trained member of your team but also a beloved companion and a true asset to the community. The dedication and commitment of both the K-9 and their handler are evident in the invaluable services they provide, from tracking down suspects to detecting dangerous substances.
The bond between a police K-9 and their handler is unparalleled, built on trust, loyalty, and mutual respect. Losing a K-9 partner is like losing a member of the family, and I can only imagine the sense of loss and grief the handler must be experiencing. Please know that you and your fellow officers are in my thoughts during this challenging time.
Police K-9 Nyx has left a lasting impact on the community through exceptional service and unwavering dedication. Bravery in the face of danger and commitment to ensuring public safety are commendable and greatly appreciated.
As you and your colleagues mourn the loss of Police K-9 Nyx, please remember that you are not alone. The community stands with you, grateful for the sacrifices you make daily to protect and serve.
Having served as a Law Enforcement Professional for 44 years, and as a law enforcement family, if there is anything we can do to offer support or assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.
May the memories of Police K-9 Nyx and the legacy left behind provide you with comfort and strength during this tough time. Police K-9 Nyx’s service will not be forgotten, and Police K-9 Nyx’s impact on the community will continue to be felt for years to come.

K9 Nyx, I am so relieved every day when I see no new notifications. Today, I was brought down by tears and anger that yet another precious hero was taken down. Your incredible talent and service should not have been ended by a sick and evil perpetrator. For whatever reason, the Lord called you home. Now you can rest and play in complete safety with your fellow K9s who have give their lives in the line of service too. God bless you, precious officer! May God give your partner, family and department peace in their terrific loss. You are a beautiful star in the night sky!

K9 Nyx, you were an amazing dog and will be missed by everyone especially your handler. The person that killed you deserves a life sentence for the killing of a K9. You deserved to live your life and do what you loved most. But someone took that away from you which is sad. But you are missed by everyone at the Rockford Illinois police department. Our thoughts and prayers are with the police department and your handler. Rest In Peace K9 Nyx

Heavenly Father, the Rockford IL Police Department was fortunate to receive the gift of K9 Nyx from You. Now that she has left this life, shot and killed in the Line-of-Duty, please help her family, friends, and comrades of the Rockford IL Police Department cope with their loss with strength and courage. We know that their beloved companion no longer suffers, and will live on forever in the many fond memories of her past. In Christ Jesus' mighty and holy name, and by His authority, I pray. Amen.
