I have worked with K9's in the private sector. These dogs are loyal, courageous,
and loving to their human counterparts. I remember getting weak in my knees
as I watched a caring veternarian here in Texas help Levi and Gracie Lou leave this
life as cancer was ravaging their bodies. I lost a piece of myself both times. I believe
that God allows such loyal copanions to enter the gates of Heaven itself, and can only
hope that I will deserve my own entrance as much as these two did.

This poem was written for K9 Fargo of the Richland County Sheriff's Department in Honor of the unquestionable sacrifices K9's make in their everyday service to their partners and Agencies! Let this poem stand as a tribute to all our K9 Heroes who give the ultimate sacrifice!

“Our K9 Named Fargo"

He was just another Police dog,
I was going to have to train,
He was a beautiful “Belgian Malinois”,
And Fargo was his name.

We worked so hard together,
From sun up until Night,
His future as a Police Dog,
Became our daily plight.

This dog could do anything,
He was so easy to train,
Each day he made me so proud,
My partner “Fargo” was his name.

After months of rigorous training,
Fargo was ready for the road,
It didn’t take long to prove himself,
He was one of the best-I was told!

He hit on the drugs every time,
And tracked down the criminals too,
He did everything I ask of him,
There was nothing he wouldn’t do.

We stayed together day and night,
This dog I had to train,
He was my partner and my friend,
“Fargo” was his name!

It was the 16th of December,
With the moon and stars so bright,
When “Fargo” hit the trail of a robber,
My heart stopped when shots rang in the night!

My Partner was hit several times,
This K9 I had to train,
We cried because he didn’t make it,
My partner “Fargo” was his name!

Lord God of unfailing love, to those families of our beloved nation, the United States of America, who are suffering in the wake of the loss of a Law Enforcement K-9 family member in the Line-of-Duty, help us to provide support. Allow us to be their rock and fortress in a time of immense pain and uncertainty. Help us to keep them safe and nourished in their time of grief, suffering beside them as we move toward healing and reconciliation. Lord God, in Your compassionate mercy, hear my prayer. Amen.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” [Matthew 5:4 ESV]

I am so sorry for the loss of K-9 Deputy Jack. The general public does not understand the unflinching commitment these 4-legged officers give and have. I am sure he obeyed his orders and charged the suspect without hesitation. I pray we at least gave and are giving them the same amount of protection (i.e. bullet proof vests min.) as their human counterparts. It seems like it should be a "given" city or county expense.

Please let me know where I can donate to the fund to make sure all out 4 legged officers have the gear needed to be protected. And, please make it public so other civilians know where to donate in Jack's name. Thank you and sending healing prayers to all who feel the loss of Jack

K-9 Jack, Your heroism comes at too much of a sacrifice. You gave your precious life fully devoted to serving. Your bold career still does not show your naive and endless pure love for your partner and your department. Your devotion, dedication and pure determination show the real you - a gift from God to protect mankind. May you receive the great reward you deserve. And, as you bask in Heaven, ask God to provide peace and comfort to your partner, fellow officers and family.
