Reflections for K9 Doby

Our dog has been receiving treatments for cancer at the vet hospital where Doby was taken on that tragic morning. We had just finished her appointment and were relieved she has been doing so well - we were right outside the hospital when sirens got our attention and suddenly, there were multiple police vehicles zooming up to the clinic. We watched as Doby's partner raced out of his car, cradling Doby in his arms and into the clinic. I will never, ever forget the look of sheer panic and grief on his face. We knew it must be quite serious and when we got in our car and started driving home, I couldn't stop crying and thinking about that sweet dog and all the dear people surrounding him who were giving their all to try to save him. That image has stayed with me for the last few weeks and I was so sorry to read about Doby's death. My husband consoled me on that morning saying "One thing you have to know, from watching the way they brought him in, that dog is getting the best possible treatment and care - those people were doing everything they could for him. Whether he can be saved or not, it's good to see a dog given such respect and consideration." I know it is not much consolation, but I wanted the Fairfax police to know we were proud of you for the loving care and the serious effort you made for him. I'm so very sorry he couldn't be revived. We send you our condolences and our gratitude for trying so hard for him. I have to believe he felt the love and support. And Doby, you did good.

While some may believe that animals have no afterlife, like we humans do, I can assure that, that is untrue. The book of Romans says that ALL creation waits to be, and will be redeemed/renewed. So, rest easy sweet Doby, in the presence of Our Lord. And, we take comfort in knowing that we will see you again.

K-9 Doby, We cannot ask why God called you home so early! Tell your partner's heart that you are fine and very, very patiently waiting to greet him again. Lord, shower K-9 Doby's partner with peace and the pride of knowing that it was You who paired these two great heroes together for a specific place and time! May his partner realize just how precious he too is in God's eyes. Our prayers and thoughts are with him, his family and the department.
