In the dark of night he chased the bad man
Running away with a gun in his hand
K-9 Sultan was right on the trail
Making sure this guy was going to jail
Ahead and in force, Sultan was strong
There was no doubt it wouldn't be long
Barking and looking he had the man down
And then in a flash came the most dreaded sound
Sultan cried out and it was all he could do
All but his duty and that wasn't through
His dark eyes grew glassy his breathing was fast
And then in a while the boy breathed his last
A handsome young lad with dark prowling eyes
Sultan is gone and we now realize
He was a great buddy, and a real friend
And he did his job right there to the end

Sultan was a wonderful, beautiful, noble dog who was more human than many people. May the Lord bless and keep him for his unconditional love and for his unfailing heroism; and may the Lord bless, keep and comfort Mark and all who mourn his loss! Rest in peace!

Our deepest sympathy to the department, the handler and his family. It takes a special dog to perform as a K9, and their sacrifice hurts the deepest since they did not anticipate it.

I believe animals are sanctified. The lord forsake man and commanded Noah to build an ark to protect his special creatures. The Lord prepares a special place for all. I believe Sultan’s place is peaceful with plenty of green meadows to roam waiting for his partner to join him for time and all eternity.

My sincerest sympathy to K9Sultan's handler and family. As the wife of a former K9 officer, I well understand the terrible sorrow and heartbreak they are going through. A K9 is a very special Officer and they are well deserving of the same honor a regular officer receives when they are killed in the line of duty. Again sympathies to the Officer, the family and the Department. LD Ford, Retired, Greensboro, NC Police Department Communications

I believe that this says it all:
A K-9 PRAYER
Trust in me, my friend, for I am your comrade.
I will protect you with me last breath.
When all others have left you
and the loneliness of the night closes in,
I will be at your side.
Together we will conquer all obstacles
and search out those whom might wish harm to others.
All I ask of you is compassion,
the caring touch of your hands.
It is for you that I will unselfishly give my life
and spend my nights unrested.
Although our days together
may be marked by the passing of the seasons,
know that each day at your side is my reward.
My days are measured by
the coming and going of your footsteps.
I anticipate them at every opening of the door.
You are the voice of caring when I am ill;
the voice of authority when I’ve done wrong.
Do not chastise me unduly,
for I am your right arm,
the sword at your side.
I attempt to do only what you bid of me.
I seek only to please you and remain in your favor.
Together you and I shall experience
a bond only others like us will understand.
When outsiders see us together
their envy will be measured by their disdain.
I will quietly listen to you
and pass no judgment,
nor will your spoken words be repeated.
I will remain ever silent,
ever vigilant, ever loyal.
And when our time together is done
and you move on in this world,
remember me with kind thoughts and tales,
for a time we were unbeatable.
Nothing passed among us undetected.
If we should meet again on another street
I will gladly take up your fight.
I am a Police Working K-9 and together
We are guardians of the night.
Our hearts are with you and your department.

Sultan, you were a brave and proud dog. You will be missed by all of your canine and human friends in the world of law enforcement. You went out to catch a criminal who was hiding and then he took your life, He will pay for what he did and pay dearly he will. I am sure he will get his just deserts when a judge and jury get done with him. It will be prison time for what he did to you. I am sure you will be remembered along with other police dogs who lost their lives in the line of duty at a memorial service in your hometown.
