Reflections for K9 Mick

Rest In Peace K9 Mick. You are pain free now. Wait by the Rainbow Bridge till one day when you are re-united with your Handler/Partner. My condolences to your Handler/Partner and the Portland Police Bureau.

You have guarded our backs, always with that pleasure to please. We have trusted you even when we had our own doubts, and you prevailed. Thanks for never showing fear when there was fear and always going the extra mile no matter what the call was. You will be missed, you will never be replaced. Go and romp in that great puppy heaven, play with the ball and roll on your back forever. You earned it partner.

I pray that when the criminal that shot the K-9 is facing the court system, that he is punished as though he killed a human not just a 4 legged puppy. If I was a judge, I would punish humans worse than animals because some of human beings here deserve it. And a dog cannot carry a gun to protect himself.

K-9 Police Officer Mick, you gave your life for the protection of your two legged partner and his Brothers and Sisters. And all you wanted was for some reassuring words and a good scratch behind the ear. A civilian can never understand the bond between a K-9 and the handler and why we in Law Enforcement mourn when a K-9 is taken from us. Cross over the Rainbow Bridge and play with your new four legged friends. To Mick's handler stay strong Brother.

To the Officer or Deputy who is a handler, a K-9 is not just a service animal. The K-9 is a partner, a friend, a companion, trusted back-up and yes, a family member. May you find comfort that your K-9 partner gave his life to protect your own, in the tradition of law enforcement excellence. Not just a dog...as Deputy J.J. Saunders stated, a TRUE HERO!

I am sorry to learn of a loss of a true hero, friend and loved one in K9 Mick. I know most people would say they are just dogs. However I strongly feel they are someones partner in fighting crime as well as a pet to a family membger. May the Lord bless and comfort his handler.
