There is no greater expression of love than to lay ones life down for another. If Ape had not been there, it may have been another officer that had been killed. Prayers go out to all those who knew Ape.

This was a very tragic event for our little town, something that you just dont ever see in these parts of Upstate, NY. It is with deepest sympathy and saddness I send my condolences to Ape's handler and everyone that was involved that day. Whether it is a human life or animal there is no words for such tragedy. These are amazing animals whom have saved countless lives. Ape will be sadly missed but heroically remember forever.

I AM A WORKING DOG
My eyes are your eyes, to watch you and to protect you and yours,
My ears are your ears, to hear and detect evil minds in the dark,
My nose is your nose, to scent the invader of your domain,
And so you may live, my life is also yours.
