K9 Kodak succumbed to injuries he sustained while tracking a fleeing suspect on October 5, 2024.
A driver in a stolen vehicle fled from deputies in a wooded area near Leesburg Road. K9 Kodak was tracking the suspect and became trapped in razor wire fencing. It took two K9 deputies to release K9 Kodak from entanglement.
K9 Kodak was transported to the vet and underwent surgery to repair lacerations in his abdomen and leg. Five days later, K9 Kodak died from his injuries.
The suspect was not apprehended.
K9 Kodak had served with the Richland County Sheriff's Department for four years.
