K9 Lucky was shot and killed while tracking a robbery suspect in a wooded area north of Camas.

A subject had stolen an off-duty police officer's vehicle and guns from his home. When the officer saw his vehicle, he started a pursuit that ended at Northeast 262nd Street and Bradford Road in Vancouver. When the subject exited the vehicle he fired at the off-duty officer while fleeing into a wooded hillside. K9 Lucky and his handler responded to the shots fired and backup call. While searching for the subject, the officers heard a shot and a yelp. The subject was apprehended a few hours later.

The suspect was convicted of harming a police dog, first-degree burglary, and two counts of second-degree theft and sentenced to nine years. He was acquitted of two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

K9 Lucky had served with the Clark County Sheriff's Office for three years. He was responsible for 178 felony and 237 misdemeanor convictions.
