While my husband was serving with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, the six chldren and I were living in the Miami area at the time of Ronnie's death.
We attended church at the Salvation Army on 5th Street and often had a motorcycle policeman pull along side when stopped for a traffic light. My first thought was always "What did I do?" Then, Ronnie would grin and say "Hi, Sis" Whew!! I wished many times later to hear that again.
We were at church on the Wednesday evening of the shooting and that's where I received the call that the policeman down was Ronnie.
I remember his funeral mass as a beautiful service. There were fellow officers from all over the state, the scripture verse "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13, the male choir singing our national anthem, and the long line of cars following us to the cemetery. I never hear the anthem without thinking of Ronnie.
He lives on through his chilren, all grown now and though his wife remarried, at her death she was buried beside Ronnie.
Our memories will always be precious.

God Bless the McCloud family. I never met Ronnie, but I heard alot of good things about him while I worked for MPD.
I remember the day he got shot. I was working at that time for Longs M/C on Flagler St. I heard it on a news bulletin. It made me mad and I decided that day I wanted to put people like the guy that shot Ronnie away for good.

I was very little when Uncle Ronnie was killed. I'll never forget him taking me for a short ride on the front of that big Harley-Davidson Miami Police Department motorcycle. He would ride down the sidewalk one or two houses down and back to the house.

We were in K-Mart shopping and my Dad received a page to come to the customer service desk for a phone call. Dad was shocked because he couldn't imagine anybody calling him while at the store. In fact, he was trying to figure out just who even knew we were there as we walked to the desk. After he got off of the phone, he immediately said that we had to go. My parents dropped me off at my Aunt and Uncle's house and rushed to the hospital.

I remember talking to my Aunt and cousin Vicki. We were all hopeful that he would be OK. Most disturbingly, he wasn't.

I'll never forget his funeral. Seeing all of his fellow police officers honoring their friend and fellow co-worker was like something out of a Hollywood movie.

I think of him and my cousins (David, Mike, and Rhonda) often when I see a policeman on a motorcycle. I am always hopeful that they will move out of the Miami area and further north within the state of Florida. I can tell that a large part of him lives through each of them!!
