Deputy Sheriff Mayborne, thank you! Rest in peace. Michelle - wife of US Marshal It's hard to believe that it was 35 years ago that we lost you. In many ways it seems like it was only yesterday. Our thoughts are with you, Terry, and the girls. Nate McClure As my career's end is coming closer, I decided to check and find those who had lost their lives during the year that I was hired. While it's been a long time since your passing, I'm sure those you left behind and those whom with you served with distinction have kept you alive in their memories. Thank you for your service and for looking out for us who continue in our chosen profession. Rest in peace Deputy Mayborne. Sgt. Robert Mau Sr. We are very pleased to read today that the PRB has voted against parole with even more of a plurality then last year. We are very proud of your family and their efforts and we know you are too. Every year they have to fight this fight and we fully support them and will do whatever they ask. We are also hopeful of the PRB. They made every law abiding person in Illinois proud. illinois citizen God bless your family as they go through the pain of keeping your killer in prison. No one should have to do that to get justice but they have done so with honor and dignity. Your courage and service in protecting us will never be forgotten. Pamela Wells First, thanks to the Rockford newspaper for featuring this incident. We again signed the on-line petition and encourage others do so too. Secondly, thanks to your family and friends who established a website in Mike's name honoring Deputy Mayborne that not only shares family pictures (those submariners are some kind of guys) but also explains the problem of C-Inmates. Finally, we hope the parole board serves justice. There should be no problem, the C-Inmates simply remain in prison and complete at least the minimum term of their sentences. We were astounded to learn his killer was eligible for parole in less than ten years of his crime. Illinois citizen YOU ARE REMEMBERED TODAY AND THANK YOU SIR FOR YOUR SERVICE VANDENBERGHE YOU ARE REMEMBERED TODAY AND THANK YOU SIR FOR YOUR SERVICE VANDENBERGHE "The Badge" Investigator David L Bell Mike, You sent your daughters on an assignment to keep your killer in prison. Well, I know you are proud right now. They fought the battle of the Illinois Prisoner Review Board the whole way. Your community spoke and in the end, one vote kept him in. One member changed his vote because he felt to release him would be to depracate the seriousness of the crime and show disrespect for the law enforcement officers who are there to protect us everyday. We vow to improve laws to sentence cop killers to life-no parole, first in Illinois and then nationwide. Like the justice scale you brought back for us from Italy while serving in the Navy-we will "balance justice" so that you have not died in vain. That is a gift we promise to fullfill. You knew in heaven how messed up our laws were becoming and we have taken up the challenge that you have already placed into action for us. Keep giving us love, courage and direction as we do this for the love in our hearts for you and your fellow officers, that has never ceased to diminish, but has grown stronger with the generations that have followed. Even though your grandchildren cannot see you smiling with or at them, in their hearts, they feel your love. We hold our reflections dear in our hearts of you and continue to praise God for all our blessings. We feel your presence and follow your signs when you need us nearer for encouragement and love. Butterfly kisses and hugs with every breeze till we are lifted together. Hopefully we can post a "new law" reflection soon in your honor and in the honor ofthose who you have served with. You have a brotherhood in heaven of local officers killed also, look after their families also with them and help to bring peace to our community. Loving you always. TA P.S. He is up again for parole in May 2008 and we will be needing your help again! Love you and thanks. All your loving family memebers.................. Terry We gladly signed an online petition ealier this year, as did THOUSANDS of others urging the parole board to keep your killer in prison, exactly where he belongs. It was the least we could do and frankly, there has to be a better system so citizens can have more of an impact on the parole process. We don't care that if released he was going to live at some 230 acre farm with his wife. We don't care that he was drunk or under the influence of drugs at the time and because of that, as was reported, made a stupid mistake. What he did was more than a mistake, he intentionally fired a weapon to facilitate his flight from his crime-armed robbery. The petition worked and the vote by the board last week was CLOSE. Another vote or two and your killer would have been freed under an idiotic theory that he is 71 and is no longer a danger to society and in fact has seved his debt to society. Well, he was sentenced 75-100 years and it seems to us he should do 75 years until he is elgible for parole. Then his debt is paid to us. Why do we citizens have to fight to keep killers in jail? God bless you and your family and we are sorry they have to go through this every year. Thousands of us will be there for them again. illinois citizen I memory of Deputy Mayborne and his sacrifice. Relative of Canadian Fishery Officer Mike was a great man and father. Soon his killer will be up for parole again. Because of recent changes in ILL law and house bill #HB1695 his killer may soon be freed. After serving 33 years of a 100 year sentence. This process must be stopped and laws changed not only for the pain Mr. Ted Bacino caused my family. But for all the Men and Women who choose to wear a badge and put their lives on the line. Cop killers must never enjoy freedom. Ken Anderson You will always remain close in our hearts and we will continue to praise the efforts you made to make your community a safer place for our children. Love forever. Terry L. Mayborne Rudeen The Pecos Police Department, thanks you for your service and may the Lord Bless your family, and take care of them.
To my daddy, Jennifer Mayborne Sutkay Daughter I agree with a previous writer who wrote “No officer’s death should be without reflection.” I hope the perpetrator has been sentenced to the most severe penalty. It is an honor to be the first to leave a reflection in your memory. May the memory of your service, heroism and sacrifice remain forever. Trooper
