December 18, 1959 was the day I was born. I can only hope that as Patrolman Long left this earth that he touched my soul with his passion as a police officer.
It's been over 48 years since you gave it your all. I can see by a past refection that you are dearly thought of today. Not one of us in law enforcement can ever really know how our lives effect others. It's after we are gone that the void seems endless.
To the family and friends of North Carolina Highway Patrolman H.T. Long I will carry on his tradition, his legacy in my heart. We will share date forever. His passing and my birth.

Please be the guardian angel that all officers need to keep them safe. There are so many that get injuried and killed in the same incidents you did, and so many accidents could be avoided if everyone would move over slow down and watch out for our officers. They give their lives serving and protecting us. I know from talking with my grandma that you were a wonderful man and you served the NCSHP well. Beverly Benton

I just stopped by the odm page and found you Patrolman Long, I salute you sir. and from this day forth, you will never be forgotten.No HERO is ever forgotten in the family of fallen officers. The first hero that gave his life was our Lord and Saviour at Calvery. I honor you Patrolman Long, for the Hero you were here, and now one in Heaven. Patroling streets of gold with your fellow fallen brothers. May you rest in peace. never forgotten!!!!!!!!! I will visit you often Hero Long. You were in Heaven standing with the other Hero's at attention when our lord welcomed my son-in-law, SGT.JEFFREY T. HEWITT home. Thank you friend for keeping watch over the rest of us.
