Rolland and I were in the same graduation class at the City of Miami Police Dept. I remember him being a proud member of the department and if I recall he was able to get the same badge number his dad had. He had a really promising future and I recall at the time he was engaged to be married. On May 23, 1970 he had relieved me and was reporting to his zone. I never forgot him and never will. He was a real professional.

It has been almost 38 years ago that you were murdered while doing your job. I graduated two academy classes after you. I will never forget you or what happened to you that Saturday night in downtown. Rest in Peace dear brother.

Each day I try to read the ODMP. Today I read your story. Any officer who dies in the line of duty will always be remembered for his sacrifice. You died a hero. Rest in peace Officer Lane.
