A tragedy that is felt by every police officer. My condolances to the families of these fellow officers. Van den Hende Renaat Ghent Police Belgium 2009-10-06
I want to offer my condolences to this truly dedicated Officer and his family. It's a shame to hear that another officer has paid the ultimate sacrifice. We protect our communities from harm but take the risk of not coming home. I appreciate the service you have given us.

Dan was one of those guys who always had a smile on his face. He was always ready to jump in and help out on any task or project. I was a fraternity brother of his, several years ahead of him, and I did not see him often. But I remember him as a truly gregarious, welcoming presence. I did not know he was a police officer until the day he died. I am sure he did not know that I was once a Deputy Sheriff in Orange County, California. Many years have passed since I wore a badge, but I still feel a strong bond with the courageous men and women who do. I honor you, Dan, and all of you out there who get the job done. Dear Daniel: I am sadden by the awful misfortune of losing any officers. When I see your smile it is infectious. You are in my daily prayers. You have a twin on this earth -- he is my nephew Gary, he in the FBI. When I saw your picture on the television I thought it was him. Even though I feel so sad about all the officers and respect most police offers you are my special one. I know I can be selfish when I am sad -- I will just go to your picture and it bring a smile. Doc was such a officer at the memorial, you would have been extremely proud of him. Anonymous

The Sakai family,
I also did a crossfit workout today in honor of Sergeant Sakai. One of the most powerful things about being a member of the crossfit community is their commitment to honoring the CF heros. The "Daniel" WOD will be performed in CF gyms all over the world.
My little brother, Border Patrol Agent Stephen Sullivan, was killed in the line of duty on March 27, 1999. This year was the 10 year anniversary of his passing. My family thought of you all that day, as we knew Daniel was being put to rest.
One of the most important things to my family was that Stephen was remembered. Please know that Daniel will always be honored and remembered by families like my own as well as by the Crossfit community that Daniel was and will always be a part of.
Prayers and sympathy to you all.

I watched your funeral on television and cried the whole service. When your sister said what a 'cool dude' you were it absolutely broke my heart. I work about two miles from where you died and I am so sad everyday when I drive down Edwards Avenue. I am so sorry. Anonymous

I have been an officer for 2 years and two months and 3 days. I know that you went to those in need and you did your best. I can not even express how wonderful a person he must of been. To come to those under fire is one of the bravest things that can be done. This man along with his brothers is a hero, not just to your local community to the nation and the world. He did his job and he did it right, I wish to God none of us had to die to protect those we love and those who need our help in times of distress, but that is what we do. And that is what makes us who we are. i pray your family finds peace in the coming years phoenix Police officer 2009-04-09
Dear Sgt. Sakai;
May you & your fellow PD brothers, E.Romans & J.Hege, Rest In Peace. Thank you for your supreme sacrifice to protect your community. Our hearts go out to you & your families.
And to the families of these brothers--we read 'Officer Down Memorial Page' every morning before reading the 'Law Enforcement Code of Ethics'. It keeps us in the proper frame of mind, as to just how dangerous this way of life really is, & the dedication that's required to do this job well.
Take care & remember, time DOES help to heal old wounds.

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace through such incidents & our comfort is the assurance that He will judge the guilty.
Another senseless tragedy Another day of grief, Another day of praying To help us find relief.
Relief from bitter anguish Relief from rage so great, Relief from lenient justice Which continues to seal our fate.
Relief from heartache’s torment As we continue on, Oh, the awesome loss of brotherhood Now that you are gone.
Though our hearts are deeply broken And our tears forever flow, There’s a comforting assurance That now with God you go.
We know that you are welcome Now at Heaven’s gate, While meeting brothers & sisters Who also met such fate.
The family of Law Enforcement Knows no distance here or there, As we recall in comfort You await us there.

Deeply sorrowful, I leave a reflection about another brave soldier killed by a cowardly enemy. I hope the community will show appreciation for the sacrifice Officer Sakai has made, and outrage for this violent attack. My deepest sympathies and prayers to the family, friends and brother/sister officers of you and Officers Dunakin, Hege and Romans. Officer Sakai, may the memory of your heroism, service and sacrifice remain forever. May God bless you and your family. AC Trooper Pennsylvania State Police 2009-04-06
