Your heroism and service is honored today, the first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

To your family: I understand the meaning of lives forever altered, and know that the hurt of losing a beloved never goes away...the pain and pride is forever. I pray for your solace.

I was notified today, that I would have the privilegd to ride in "HONOR" of PO Richard Bremer during this years Police Unity Tour in May. I did not know Officer Bremer or his family, but that will not change the fact that I will HONOR him and his family to the best of my ability. We are all brothers and sisters in blue "No Matter What". It will be my mission to see that Officer Bremer and his family are "NEVER" forgotten.
Always remember..."It's not how he died, but how he lived" I salute you and your family...I hope to be able to meet the family during police week.

No words can fully capture the feeling of loss or condolences. The word "tragedy" does not fill the void left behind by the courageous action taken by any police officer killed in the line of duty. That void is filled with the love of family and friends; the admiration and respect of peers; and the acknowledgment of duty by the public at large.

Another angel of the Thin Blue Line is watching over the rest of us on the street. In that, at least, I find peace.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Officer Bremer, you are a hero, all gave some, some gave all! Ipray God will hold the family in his arms. Grief is so heartbreaking. My grandson was ambushed, shot and killed last December near Christmas. He was only 25 yrs old. He was a Police Officer for Smithsburg, MD . We buried him on Christmas eve. So please know my heart grieves for you and your family Grief is still my constant companion because Christopher was the joy of my life so my heart goes out to you and your children.. God Bless! Ofc Bremer thank you sir for your service. I as a young boy always wanted to be in police work but was unable to secure a career so I can appreciate your desire to be a cop. I have the deepest respect for any one that will put their life in harms way day in and day out to keep the peace, protect our property and enforce the laws. Our society can ill afford to loose men and women such as you and I know that your fellow officers of the Frederick City Police and Frederick County Sheriffs Officer all notice an empty desk. As a citizen of the Frederick county area your service is deeply appreciated and God Bless you.
