James Sheppard Dear Elizabeth, Anonymous The Corrections Officer stood and faced his God, which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, just as brightly as his brass. wife of LEO RIP C.O Franklin Anonymous TO LIZ, MY DEAR SWEET FRIEND, AS I SIT HERE WITH TEARS FLOWING FROM MY EYES AND MY HEART FEELING SO HEAVY, WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I MISS YOU. I THANK GOD FOR THE SEASON THAT YOU WERE IN MY LIFE. YOU BROUGHT HUMOR TO MY SOUL WHEN I WAS AT THE LOWEST.YOU TAUGHT ME SO MUCH ABOUT BEING HUMBLE AND PATIENT. THANKS, FOR ALWAYS LISTENING. I THANK GOD FOR OUR LAST CONVERSATION,THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR FALL, WE TALKED ABOUT THE PAST, THE PRESENT AND THE FUTURE, I KNOW DEATH WAS NOT ON YOUR MIND,BUT THE FATHER TOOK YOU HOME AND YOU ARE IN A BETTER PLACE. MY ANGEL, REST IN PEACE! THE KIDS ARE DOING WELL, YOU WOULD BE PROUD, AND AS YOU ALREADY KNOW, I WILL ALWAYS KEEP A CHECK ON THEM. WHEN I SEE YOUR GRANDCHILDREN, I FIRST HUG THEM FOR YOU AND THEN I ASK THEM, DO YOU ALL KNOW THAT YOUR GRANDMOTHER LOVED YOU VERY MUCH. THEY WOULD ANSWER, "YES MA'AM", WITH A SMILE! THE OTHER WEEK, I WALKED A HALF MILE UP A MOUNTAIN, IN YOUR HONOR,( I WISH I COULD DO MORE). I COULD HEAR YOU SAYING, "COME ON PUNKIN (THE NICK NAME YOU GAVE ME),YOU CAN DO IT. " I WISH I COULD DO MORE IN YOUR HONOR BECAUSE YOU WERE SUCH A SOLDIER AND NO ONE KNOWS LIKE I KNOW, WHAT YOU GAVE TO CORRECTIONS, YOUR FAMILY, YOUR FRIENDS, AND ALL WHO KNEW YOU. MY, MY, MY MY, MY FRIEND, I LOVE YOU , MY LIFE IS NOT THE SAME. Beverly Perkins, CO I had the pleasure of working as a Correctional Officer with Officer Franklin for many years at Tutwiler Prison for Women. Officer Franklins demeaner is amazing and I admired her so much. I can only hope to be able to obtain some of her traits as I continue my journey in Corrections and in life. She had such a light in her that most people probably start out with in their formulative years, but loose it somewhere along the way when REAL LIFE starts to hit you. But Ms. Franklin has always kept that childlike wonder yet wisdom from old about her. She could always be counted on for support and encouragement, even a good laugh or two when you needed it. She will be missed by me and anyone else who had the pleasure of knowing her. I thank God for his grace in allowing me to know the beautiful lady, even if it was only for a short while, she has definitely left an unforgetable impression. I am praying for her family and that they find peace in this tragedy, especially her children who have to go on without her. Rest in Peace with the Lord. Correctional Sergeant Susan Clemons Speaking from my heart I can say Officer Elizabeth Franklin is truly missed I can still see that little face smiling. Off. Franklin had a kind heart and if she was ever sad you never knew it because, she always kept you laughing. We love her and miss her. Off. Franklin was truly a soldier and I will remember her as my FrankieDoo. I will always keep her kids and family in my prayers because she always spoke highly of her kids. We love Officer E. Franklin!!! Racheal R. Sankey, CO I know that I speak for everyone who've had the pleasure of working with Ofc. Franklin at Julia Tutwiler Prison when I say that she was one of the most adorable people that I've ever met.She had the kind of spirit that most of us can only dream to possess. Some people live all their lives and never come in contact with someone like Ofc. Franklin, but I was Blessed enough to have met her at the age of 21 and she will always hold a dear place in my heart.(We) Love You Ms. Franklin. COI Leroy Yelder Jr. WHEN I LOOK BACK OVER THE PASS(15)YEARS THAT WE WORKED TOGETHER, OFFICER FRANKLIN WAS APART OF OUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY TREE.(THE D.O.C. FAMILY) WE WORKED, LAUGHED, CRIED, EATEN AND PRAYED TOGETHER DURING THESE TIMES. THINGS THAT FAMILIES CHERISH, I WILL ALWAYS CHERISH OUR MEMORIES AND HOLD THEM CLOSE TO MY HEART. OFFICER FRANKLIN WAS APART OF OUR FAMILY TREE, MORE THAN JUST AN OFFICER OR CO-WORKER, TO SOME SHE WAS CONSIDERED A MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER, SISTER, AUNTIE AND FRIEND. WHEN YOU NEEDED HER SHE WAS ALWAYS THERE WILLING AND ABLE TO HELP. I CAN NEVER REMEMBER A DAY THAT SHE DID NOT LAUGH AND THAT IS SOMETHING I WILL NEVER FORGET, HER LAUGHTER AND SMILE FOR IT ALWAYS BROUGHT A SMILE TO MY FACE. GOD PICKED OFFICER FRANKLIN FROM OUR FAMILY TREE, TO ADD TO HIS HARVEST. I MISS YOU, BUT I KNOW YOU ARE RESTING IN PEACE WITH THE LORD. ELIZABETH YOUR WORK HERE ON EARTH WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN AND YOU WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED AT JULIE TUTWILER PRISON AND IN MY HEART. I LOVED YOU BUT GOD LOVED YOU BEST!!!! CO PRISCILLA HARPER My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Officer Franklin. I have always had great respect for anyone working in the correctional field. Your jobs are so difficult and unappreciated. This year I have been given the honor and privilege to ride in the Police Unity Tour in honor of Officer Elizabeth Franklin. I know that she is missed by all that knew her, but she will never be forgotten! Lt. Randy Fisher I was an Inmate at Tutwiler prison for about 2yrs. I got to know some of the officers there"who I have a lot of respect for"and Mrs Franklin was one of them. She was hard on us but it was because she expected more from us than we expected from ourselves. She would listen to you if you had a problem. She told me at one point that just because you are in here doesent mean your not still a person. The only thing Tutwiler can take away from you is your freedom but not to let it take anything from who you are. Mrs. Franklin will truely be missed not only by me but by a lot of the Released inmates and the still incarcerated. Billy Jo Brasher I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Franklin. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts. Jocelyne Brar (Winnipeg, MB Canada) To the family, friends, and officers that knew CO Franklin, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone. Erin The highest of distinctions is service to others. -King George VI
We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Franklin and we honor her distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Officer Franklin has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure. TPD/Special Agent To the co-workers, family and friends of Officer Franklin- USPO Justin "Jay" C. Thompson Rest in peace sister. We've got the watch from here.
