My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Pitt. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.
From reading the reflections left for Wayne, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Wayne's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Wayne's life was about so much more than the way he died. Wayne will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.
Officer Pitt, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been four years but we still miss him terribly.

Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.
I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life last year in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum; a keeper of the ODMP light. That sacred light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here.
This "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is a hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find solace as we give solace to the families who have lost a loved one.
Police Officer Wayne Pitt, God Bless you. You are a hero. As we say in Hawaii, “You are`Ohana.” “You are Family.” No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. There is so much I could say in rememberance of you but the thing I will always carry in my heart is the deep love, dedication and devotion you had for our mother (nothing and no one came before her) and then the deep love you had for your nine siblings. Though you did things on your own terms and your own way, no one could ever doubt how deep your love was for those you cared about. I will be forever be grateful for your support when I shared with you that God had commissioned me to Pastor a church/ministry in California. You were supportive then and remained so to the very end, even to the point of planning to make time to come and visit me depending on the situation with our mother. You will never know what that meant to me. Every fiber of my being thank you as I continue on with the journey and mandate. Thank you for the mutual respect we shared one for the other although our feelings, thoughts and opinions may not have been the same. You allowed me to be who I am, what I am and who I AM YET TO BECOME without prejudice, respected me to the utmost and were/is very proud of me as I was/am of you. Thanks for being the stablizer and equalizer during the very difficult and emotional year we suffered through with our mother. You worked so hard to keep the family unit together and cohesive at all times. Thanks for your support and deep concern for Qiyawna (neice) as I work through the many complications of her illness (epilepsy). You kept a check on that at all times, did your research and informed me of things you thought I needed to know. You called her to encourage her and she was so honored. Thank you for being a counselor, mentor, love/relationship advisor, financial advisor and a wealth of information to Kesia (neice)...she talked to you about those things more than she did to me and hung on to your every word of advice. I can't begin to tell you how your leaving us has affected her but she takes comfort in remembering the relationship the two of you had. Lastly, you were a son that every mother would want, a brother any family would be blessed to have, a uncle many neices and nephews dreamed of, a friend many hope for, and from all the wonderful things I've read from other law enforcement, the dedicated, conscientious and hardworking public servant any force would have been proud to employ. I'm sure you advising, instructing, philosophizing and carrying on your daily routine, and just still being the Wayne we knew and loved so dearly. Keep up the good work and I will see you on the other shore.

Ironically, among the last few conversations we shared, you reflected on how fortunate we had been to be a family unit of 10 and that we were all still here. Death had not yet come for any of us and you didn't even want to think about that happening. We both paused in mid conversation, looked deeply and thoughtfully at one another and decided the subject was too depressing to talk about. Being a Pastor, I've asked myself if you, being the wise brother I knew and loved dearly, sensed what was forthcoming. I will miss talking to you physically, yet I know that even though the body perishes, the spirit remains forever and that you are ever present to continue our deep and inspiring conversations. Rest in Peace, Dear Brother and I will see you on that Peaceful Shore.
