May you continue to rest in eternal peace. You are not forgotten.......

Senior Officer D. W. Reichhardt

While doing research into the early history of your department, I was honored, humbled and privledged to have stumbled upon the story of your heroic death.
You died with great valor and courage while pursuing a dangerous criminal.
You left many young children all of whom must have grown very very proud of you as they aged.

Rest in Peace. You will never be forgotten.

It took 107 years but you have finally been remembered and will be for all eternity. You will never be forgotten.

1898 wasn't so long ago that you've become nothing more than a footnote in history. Patrolman Cavanaugh, it was the guys like you who went out there in the early days. The pay and benefits weren't there, but you still went out there and did what was right and obviously didn't shirk your responsibilities. You have my everlasting respect for that.

God Bless you and Rest in Peace, brother.

Ptl. Jim Leahy Jr.
Harvard University Police Dept.

Patrolman Cavanaugh,
It has taken almost 107 years, but you are finally being honored. I would like to say thank you for your service to the citizens of Chicago.
