Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten. James Sheppard Trooper Poynter, Anonymous Thankyou for your service and sacrifice. You will never be forgotten POLICE OFFICER We once owned a towing company and saw many accidents attributed to drunk driving. I have zero tolerance for it. Sorry your life ended this way. Justice
Six years have passed since your EOW and I know those that love your dearly think of you every day. The individual that caused all this pain received a slap on the hand, I hope that she has to remember every day what she has done to those left behind that love you dearly. A drunk driver also took our Blue Angel, but in our situation the individual that caused our pain also lost his life. Continue to keep watch over your loved ones, wrap your wings around them and help them with their grief. You are a true hero and will never be forgotten. Bob Gordon YOU ARE REMEMBERED TODAY AND THANK YOU SIR FOR YOUR SERVICE Pat Van Den Berghe, Manchester, NH I miss ya friend. Tell Kevin the same. T-094 "The Badge" Investigator David L Bell Kelly, kaa522 I came to Kelly's memorial today after Greene County Missouri lost a deputy in a motor vehicle accident. I met Kelly once in Van Buren through a close friend who is also a trooper. I hope everyone else remembers him as I do; as a hero. In his final actions, he gave his life so that others would survive. That's a hero in the truest definition. 120 days for the person who murdered him defies all logic. Thank you for your service to our state sir. We will never forget. Jason Earthly justice may have been lacking but we all will have to answer to the Highest Judge one day.May you Rest in Peace and may Our Lord bless your loved ones.
It is upsetting that your life was only worth 120 days. Laws need to be changed to protect not only officers but everyone from drunk drivers. If she had used a gun, she would have been given life but for some reason, killing someone with your car is different. Your sons are going to grow up without you and that is worth more than 120 days. You died doing what you loved and I thank you for your service. Rest in peace.
My thoughts are with your loved ones on this 5th anniversary of your end of watch. Continue to keep watch over your loved ones and those still out on patrol. Justice was never served in your case, the individual that caused all the pain and suffering to those loved ones left behind that live each day without you will never know what they are going through. I hope he has to think about what he did every day for the rest of his life. Bob Gordon To Trooper Poynter, we all mourn the lose of a law enforcement officer but even more we mourn the justice system that apparently died when your killer was released after only 120. I as a Trooper have seen many bad accidents caused by drunk drivers and they normally have been convicted previously. More importantly, know that our thoughts and prayers are with your family and to your brothers on the highway. Trooper II uncle kelly its been 4 years since the accident and we miss you alot. we will never forget you and what all you have done for us. you were one of the funniest people i knew. when ever i was down you all ways knew how to cheer me up. but i know you are in a better place now. nephew Kelly, It has been 4 years. Things have changed but we still remember you and tell stories.
R.I.P my friend my aunt was hit and injured by a DUI driver 2 years ago and now is a fugitive on a charge of Failure To Appear and my thoughts and prayers are with your family. Philippe Dufour As a Missouri resident and an attorney, I am appauled to see that the convict was released after 120 days. But more importantly as sister/brother-in-law of Jonathan Dragus EOW 10/20/05, please allow us to express that Trooper Poynter and what he stood for will never be forgotten. Our prayers are with your family. Shawn Rogers I come to this site every day and read reflections. That is my way of seeing that these fine men and woman are never forgotten. It is horrible how many officer's on this site who have been murdered by a drunk driver. Here is another. A officer who was serving and protecting. But WHO protected him? His killer received 120 days. What is that about? She knew right from wrong. I wish they would make these drunk drivers FACE the family of their victims, especially their children who now are without their Mom or Dad. Maybe, just maybe they would think twice before climbing behind the wheel of that thousand pound machine. God Bless your family Trooper Poynter. One day you will receive justice.
My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in SE Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Kelly did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Kelly be the last to die this way. Jocelyne Brar (Winnipeg, MB Canada) There was no justice in the case involving the individual that killed you. I hope that for the rest of her life she thinks about how she took your life and brought upon your family grief and loss that will be with them for the rest of their lives. You will never be forgotten by those who love you nor the Blue Family. Watch over your family and close friends. Robert Gordon, Asst. Chief, Retired We still think of you often and remember your smile. You will always be remembered my brother! An old Zone 4 Brother I pass the memorial on Hwy 63 while traveling to my in-laws in Arkansas every year. I look forward to seeing the roadside marker, as it is a reminder of how precious my family is, and how important it is to stay safe during traffic stops. May God bless the family for their sacrifice. Patrol Officer John Finco 120 days for alcohol intoxication resulting in death?? While our hero LEOs continue to serve & protect, who can they rely to serve & protect them? Rusty Ooi Trooper Poynter,
