Just over a week away from that July 03 mark. I often think of what you would be doing if you had not been killed. Retired, and most likely sitting on the beach or at the pool at the Key Biscayne condo with family around. Missed much by all! Retired Terry Russell City of Miami PD Fla. 2009-06-24

Thankyou for your service and sacrifice, you are not forgotten POLICE OFFICER PHILA PA 2008-03-14
Bill, i'll never forget the saturday you went down for as long as i live. I was 15 yrs. old at the time & it was a sunny july 1st, i was outside washing my dads patrol car and for some reason, decided to monitor the radio, i did that all the time to try to learn it. I'll never forget the screams that went out over the air that day. It was the first "officer down" call i ever heard over the radio and i'm sorry it had to be yours. I didn't know you as well as i knew everyone else but i went to high school with your daughter michelle. You & my dad were good friends and he misses you. After it happened he said it was a shame... you were one of the good ones. God bless you and may you continue to patrol the streets of Miami in silence. Watch over those still fighting out on the road & watch over my dad, who's still going at it after 28 years. Maybe one day i can officially introduce myself. Send my love to michelle, i know she's up there with you. She was a brave officer too, like her father. Her watch ended too soon. Take care bill. Elio Tamayo Friend 2008-02-01
To Officer Williams family. Bill will not be forgoten. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I can tell by what I read, that he was a great person and Officer. God Bless you all. (Jim May MPD 1970-1973.) Sgt Jim May (ret) CMPD Charlotte, NC 2007-12-27
"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day To respond to calls unknown. He drives a marked patrol car. A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes To make it safe on the streets. But he usually has a second job 'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday 'Cause he works all year round. And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often, The one whos blood runs blue. He seldom ever gets a thanks, To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops 'Cause people just don't understand That underneath his badge and gun, He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow In this world of drugs and crime. And he gets so mad at the court system 'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work, He prays to God above. Please bring me home after my shift So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car, He's alone down this ole' highway. It's just a little traffic infraction. He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window, And his badge is shining bright. He asked the guy for a driver's license, When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark, Striking the officer in the chest. But the Department's budget didn't buy Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding. His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red. And briefly he thought of his loved ones 'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story Of how this officer had died. And some who listened cared less, But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform With his badge pinned on his chest. He even had his revolver, He died doing his best.

Bill, Although I never rode with you, or even knew you all that well, you backed me up on several 15's. You would just cruise up,on your motor and wait till I cleared, then wave, and ride off. God bless you mate. Dave Collis. Retired Lt. Dave Collis MPD: 1973-1995 City of Miami P.D. 2007-01-30
You are a true hero. Although we may not understand why tragedies like this occur, we will some day, when God explains it to us. He apparently needed another angel in heaven. Based on the reflections left by Bill's family and friends, our loss is certainly heaven's gain. And now we all have another guardian angel watching over us. How wonderful! Wisconsin LEO

MELISSA: IN RESPONSE TO SOMETHING YOU ASKED OF EVERYONE IN ONE OF YOUR REFLECTIONS, EACH TIME I ENCOUNTER A POLICE OFFICER FOR ANY REASON, WHETHER I'VE BEEN STOPPED OR I SEE HIM IN A STORE, DONUT SHOP, WHATEVER THE CIRCUMSTANCES, I FIRST THANK HIM FOR THE JOB HE DOES AND I THEN TELL HIM TO "BE SAFE". JUST IMAGINE IF 25% OF PEOPLE IN THE U.S. DID THIS. DO YOU THINK IT WOULD "MAKE HIS DAY"? I THINK SO. JIM SWEENEY A FRIEND TO ALL PEACE OFFICERS 2005-09-02

Dear dear Bill Bill: Reading your memorial sends a stabbing pain thru my heart. I can't imagine the pain of the person who ran into you causing your death. After all those years of dedicated service and you never got to enjoy your retirement or your family or doing all the things you had looked forward to. How tragic! According to the reflections posted here, you are with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. There is none greater than He. We don't get to Heaven based on what we do,but what He did for us!! AMEN! Thank you for your fine example to those that worked with you and knew you. There is now a huge void that cannot be filled, but as you are remembered, thoughts will turn to your exemplary life and we will be filled with pride and respect and love for the man you became. You were a wonderful testimony to the Lord you served. God be with all those who mourn and may His promises lift all those with heavy hearts for many years to come. I'm looking forward to meeting you some day. Thank you for your supreme sacrifice. From one coast of America to the other,

For the family of Bill Williams, I only came across this memorial today, or I would have written sooner. I was so very sorry to hear of this tragic loss. I knew Bill when I was a child. My father, Jim Hayden, worked with him on motors. I'll never forget the day that Bill "made my day". I was with my parents at a Policeman's ball and he came over to ask me to dance. He was also there for my Stepmother when my Dad was shot in 1988. He was a very special person.
God bless Bill and his family as well.
