Your heroism and service is honored today, the one hundred and twenty-third anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

While looking for information regarding my grandfather, John Joseph Barrett, I came upon this site. My grandfather was born in June 7, 1896, a little over 10 years to the day that Patrolman John J. Barrett was struck down in the line of duty. I have no records of where my grandfather was born, yet find it interesting that when he wed my grandmother, they eloped to Chicago, IL. I wonder if Patrolman Barrett was a relative, regardless, I gladly claim him as one. He, and the rest of the fallen officers will always be in my heart and in my prayers.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003). Unfortunately, I had to add the name of another friend recently. Deputy Jeffery Hewitt, Buncombe County (NC) Sheriff’s Department, E.O.W. April 4, 2004.

I want to honor all of those who gave their life in the line of duty. Although your death was many many years ago, you are still a hero.
