To my old friend, The Warrior. I miss you more then I can say. I think of you often. I think of you every year at the start of the Mini Marathon, every time I bow in at a Karate tournament or work out with your brother, every time I go to church where you were a best man at my wedding, every time I shoot a basketball or run a ¼ mile run. I miss going to Florida with you, I miss rocking in your Jeep with Mike. I long for the day when we can all work out together again on the mat with Mr. Lennox.

I will never forget you – Keep the Bushido, Jimmy

Hey Buddy, it is hard to believe it has been ten years, still many memories and few fears. Flowers go and renew each spring, it is a way of life, its God's thing. As life goes on it moves too fast, let's always "Love" and make it last. We have but one guarentee in life and that is death, so live to the fullest, laugh, and sometimes cry. Life moves on the fly as Warriors like you never die. Take care Brother. Your friend Ojay.

AFTERGLOW

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down

The ways, of happy times and laughing

Times and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry

Before the sun of happy memories

That I leave when life is done.

“I have fought a good fight,
I have finished My course,
I have kept the faith...”

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

You have no idea the impact you made on me as a teenager working at a gas station. When you were out of Lafayette post you would come in to my family owned gas station and speak to me. You stopped me a couple of times through the years as well. Your influence led me into law enforcement, I can only hope I may impact someone as much as you did me. You will never be forgotten....

Pat,
It doesn't seem possible that it has been 8 yrs. since you went away. You were one of the the best and most caring individuals I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I still miss you and think of you every day. I'm so glad knowing that you and Robert are together, I don't know of any two people who were more alike in their thinking and their genuine caring about other people.

Our Greatest Fear
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again, I hold back a tear.
They patrol in the state, city, county and town,
in uniforms colored white, green, blue and brown.
The shape of their badges may vary,
but it’s a symbol that they all, proudly carry.
They leave for work with a kiss goodbye,
but some don’t come home, no matter how hard they try.
To uphold the law is the job that they pick,
with such high aspirations, why must some die so quick?
They leave behind loved ones, family and friends,
after their lives have met tragic ends.
Some die in crashes, others hearts not too stout,
too many have been lost when gunshots ring out.
Our Heavenly Father has called them home,
no more these dark streets do they roam.
Through trial and error they have given their best,
please Lord, now grant them eternal rest.
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
" Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again I hold back a tear.

Hey Pat, with the upcoming World Isshinryu Karate Championships I think of you my friend. I think of times we shared, battles we fought, training we did together, laughs until we cried, shared stories, and very little glory. A police officers life. In thinking about you my friend and in dedication to all fallen warriors; I list this poem.

DO NOT STAND BY MY GRAVE AND WEEP,
I AM NOT THERE I DO NOT SLEEP,
I AM A THOUSAND WINDS THAT BLOW,
I AM A DIAMOND GLINT OF SNOW,
I AM SUNLIGHT ON RIPENED GRAIN,
I AM THE GENTLE AUTUMN RAIN,
WHEN YOU AWAKE IN THE MORNING HUSH,
I AM THE SWIFT UPLIFTING RUSH,
OF QUIET BIRDS IN CIRCLING FLIGHT,
I AM THE SOFT STARSHINE AT NIGHT.

DO NOT STAND AT MY GRAVE AND CRY,
I AM NOT THERE I DID NOT DIE..........

It still brings a smile to my face when I think of Pat hitting an outside shot in basketball and saying "Money"!...You are missed!

2004-04-05

I never met Trooper Bartram, but I went to his funeral. I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of respect and affection displayed not only by law enforcement, but by the public. Schools were emptied as their students lined the road with signs saying, "We'll miss you, Trooper Pat." Businesses also had signs reflecting those same sentiments. Surely, this Trooper must have been an exceptional person as well as a fine officer.
Rest easy, Trooper Pat, you will never be forgotten.

Besides Pat being a Law Enforcement Officer (Warrior and Hero), he was also a martial artist. In law enforcement, martial arts, and life he is such a great man, hero, family man, friend, and example for us all to follow. He did his job with knowledge, great enthusiasm, and passion. In all he is and all he was, he is a good man who is missed by all of us who knew him. I think of him a lot and pray that he is a Guardian Angel to all of us who work hard to Protect and Serve.
