Patrolman Nettles and another patrolman had arrested the man for causing a disturbance at a bus station. As they transported the man to jail the other patrolman was called away to another call. A short time later the suspect produced a knife and fatally slashed Patrolman Nettles.
The suspect was apprehended a short time later after being tracked by a bloodhound. He was still holding Patrolman Nettles' service revolver when he was arrested. The suspect was sentenced to life in prison.
Patrolman Nettles was survived by his wife. |
