Officer Manier was standing in front of a store when the man approached, cursing as he walked towards the officer. When Officer Manier grabbed the man by the belt to arrest him the man suddenly produced a revolver and shot him in the face. Officer Manier was killed instantly.
The suspect tried to flee but was chased by the store owner and apprehended a short distance away.
The suspect was convicted of Officer Manier's murder and sentenced to death. He was hanged at the Fulton County Jail on March 18, 1908.
Officer Manier was survived by his wife and young son. |
