Trooper Roy Jones was killed in an automobile crash while responding to assist the Markleville town marshal and a Madison County sheriff's deputy who had stopped a vehicle they had pursued after running a stop sign.
Trooper Jones was driving with lights and siren when another car pulled out in front of him on Indiana 38 in Pendleton. He swerved to avoid a collision and struck a tree, killing him instantly with massive injuries.
Trooper Jones was a United States Army Vietnam veteran, earning the Bronze Star with Valor. He had served with the Indiana State Police for nearly three years and was assigned to the Pendleton post. He was survived by his wife, three sons and daughter.
