Patrolman Ford was shot and killed while investigating the odors of a still on Scovill Avenue. He and his fiancee were driving home after he had finished his shift when he smelled the odor and went to investigate. Approximately 15 minutes after he got out of his car his fiancee heard several shots. She located Patrolman Ford in a yard nearby. The suspect was eventually apprehended and sentenced to life in prison.

Patrolman Ford was survived by his fiancee.
