Auxiliary Trooper Edward Truelove was killed when his patrol car was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer and burst into flames on I-84, at its junction with Route 70, in Cheshire.

He was calling in a disabled vehicle at the time of the accident. Prior to the accident, he had directed the occupants of the disabled vehicle to climb onto a nearby embankment to stay out of harm's way.

Trooper Truelove had served with the Connecticut State Police for over 20 years. He was survived by his three sisters.
