Officer John Conrad and Deputy Lawrence McParlin, of the Charles County Sheriff's Office, Maryland, were shot and killed while attempting to serve a South Carolina murder warrant on a suspect on I Street, NW.

After shooting the two officers the suspect fled to another location where he was confronted by Lieutenant David Dunigan. During the ensuing shootout Lieutenant Dunigan was also fatally wounded and the suspect wounded.
