Richard Scott Findley

Sergeant Richard Findley was struck and killed by the driver of a stolen automobile while attempting to arrest its occupants.

He and several officers were conducting surveillance on the vehicle when they observed two occupants enter it and attempt to drive away.

When the officers attempted to block the vehicle's path with their patrol car the suspects rammed the patrol vehicle. Sergeant Findley then exited the car and was struck by the stolen vehicle.

The suspects fled the scene but were apprehended a short time later. The driver of the stolen vehicle died in his jail cell the day after being arrested.

Sergeant Findley had served with the Prince George's County Police Department for 10 years and also served as a volunteer firefighter with the Beltsville Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, mother, father, brother, and two sisters.

He was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
