Officer Hinson died of a gunshot wound he received six days earlier after responding to a traffic accident.
Officer Hinson and another officer responded to a traffic accident in downtown Muskogee. The accident involved a taxi driver who was intoxicated and a local citizen. When Officer Hinson attempted to arrest the taxi driver for driving under the influence, the suspect produced a weapon and shot Officer Hinson in the chest. His partner returned fire killing the suspect. Officer Hinson was transporting to a local hospital where remained until his death, six days later.
Officer Hinson had served with the Muskogee Police Department for six years and was survived by his wife.
