Officer Beryl Scott was killed in a motorcycle accident at 3:10 p.m. near N. Seventh Street and Thunderbird Road, shortly after starting his shift.
He was en route to a local hospital to assist with a fatal DUI investigation when a vehicle pulled out of a parking lot onto North Seventh Street, directly into his path. Officer Scott's motorcycle struck the passenger door and he was thrown over the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries 30 minutes later.
The spot where Officer Scott was killed was the exact same spot where Officer Patrick Briggs was killed in a motorcycle accident on June 20, 1990, under identical circumstances.

He was cool, and I liked him even though I was feeling sorry for myself after helping a mother and daughter on the not yet finished 101 loop around Tatum, where I was then rerouted to Union Hills, West bound. No fun.
Late, and wanting to get home to 7th Ave, I blew down the only hill on Union Hills and zowie. Red and Blue. I made a right and and he showed he the radar, told me it was beyond where he could let me go, and that was that. We had the same last name. What if..?
I put in for a court date for the hell of it, knowing I was guilty, but hoping the cop would not show up. Then saw on the internet that he had been killed. I saw the people that witnessed the whole matter, most of them crying, devistated. I wanted more than ever to loose a court date, but it was set. Holy Crap. Bad. His wife was 7 month pregnant.
I went to court on my assigned date knowing the outcome. The Judge read my name. I answered. The judge read off the officer's name and badge number. No Reply. Most assembled knew why. The judge again read off the officer's name and badge number. No Reply. The other officers in the back row where I was, just on the left, just lowered their heads, knowing.
The Clerk of the Court leaned over to the judge and whispered something, and the Judge lowered his head, in shear pain. He declared the case was dismissed, with some feel of disgust in his voice. I stood up and asked to approach the beach.
He got mad, thinking I was a scam befitting on on an officer's death .
"NO, case dismissed!" Was all I got back.
I asked a second time,
"NO! CASE DISMISSED. You can LEAVE!!!!" From the Judge.
I asked I 3rd time and said I had relevant information and could I please approach the bench?!! He finally said yes
I walked up to him, speaking quietly and just said, "I am not a douche bag!" and laid out the cashier check receipt for his wife, double the fine, and some other stuff for her.
There were tears. The Judge is a good man, I did my best given this horrible situation, and the World will never again have a man as Great as Beryl Wayne Scott, Jr. Fair, honest, Good.
