Columbus "Lum" Brown

Deputy Marshal Columbus Brown died two days after being shot in the abdomen. The suspect was upset with Deputy Marshal Brown for arresting a friend and shot him after exchanging angry words with him.

It was reported that the suspect went to the marshal's office and turned himself into the town's marshal immediately after the shooting. The 20-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with murder. He was tried and acquitted.

Deputy Marshal Brown was survived by his wife and three children.
