Trooper Gregory Fleenor was killed in a single-car crash on Route 1, near Route 641, two miles north of Ashland.
He was attempting to catch up with an undercover officer who was following a suspected drunk driver when he lost control of his patrol car and struck a tree.
Trooper Fleenor had served with the Virginia State Police for 3 years. He is survived by his 10-year-old daughter and his parents.

Your humor and mischievous nature helped pull me through the 26 weeks we spent together during the 90th basic session. I remember the many evenings we spent during the “eat-release” program (dinner) and your rendition of Earl with the torque wrench when Sammy Kershaw played on the tv. Thank you for guiding me to graduation and for the wonderful memories along the way.
In 1997, I was blessed to meet Jessica and Romaine Cheney. Your memory lived on through them and once again, I felt blessed.
