Deputy Sheriff James Waygood was killed in a vehicle crash at the intersection of Hooper Avenue and 92nd Street in Watts.
Deputy Waygood was the passenger in a radio car that was responding to a call for assistance at a fight at Hooper Avenue Elementary School. A drunk driver in a Cadillac ran a red light and collided with their radio car. The drunk driver was also killed.
Deputy Waygood had served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for 2-1/2 years.
