Deputy Sheriff Charles Scott drowned in the Hudson River, approximately 50 feet from the Day Line Dock (modern day Victor C. Waryas Park) in the area of the Mid-Hudson Bridge when his boat capsized as he and another deputy attempted to recover the body of a college student.
The other deputy was pulled to safety but Deputy Scott was unable to swim to safety and drowned.
Deputy Scott had served with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office for eight years.
