Reserve Deputy Sheriff Joshua Rodriguez and Deputy Sheriff Vincent Walker were shot and killed after a traffic stop on Bandera Road.
They had stopped a vehicle for a license plate violation. As they walked up to the car, two men opened fire; one with a .38 caliber revolver and the other with a .22. Approximately ten minutes later, a citizen notified dispatchers that two deputies had been shot.
Two suspects, 22 and 28, were apprehended. On May 30, 1973, both were convicted of burglarizing a home, two counts of capital murder, and sentenced to three life terms.
Reserve Deputy Rodriguez had served with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office for two years. He was survived by his wife and two sons, one of whom went on to serve with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
