Deputy Sheriff John "Maricopa Slim" Power was shot and killed as he attempted to stop a fight on a circus train. As he rain along side the train a suspect jumped from the train and shots were exchanged. Both Deputy Power and the suspect fell to the ground wounded. Both were transported to a local hospital where they died.

One of the bullets recovered from Deputy Power's body was not fired form the gun if the suspect, and it still remains a mystery where that shot was fired from.
