I respectfully ask that parole be denied for Michael T. Mack, inmate #0000384668. This inmate brutally assassinated Officer Gregory Ray White on July 15, 1974.

Inmate #0000384668 walked into the 7-11 with two other men, intending to rob the convenience store. They drew their guns on the employees and five customers, forcing them into the walk-in refrigerator while one of the men locked the front door of the store. The manager was held at gunpoint and told to open the safe. Meanwhile, Officer Gregory White drove into the parking lot in his marked patrol car. When the men noticed his car in the parking lot, inmate #0000384668 stated that they would have to "burn that pig." One of the men unlocked the door, and Officer White walked into the store unaware of the robbery in progress. As he walked to the back of the store, inmate #0000384668 shot Officer White in the head, through his eye where the bullet lodged in his skull. The three men grabbed the money from the cash register and ran out the door. Officer White was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died 14 hours later.

The next day, law enforcement confiscated the gun that was used to kill Officer White at inmate #0000384668's apartment. Inmate #0000384668 pleaded guilty to murder and five counts of armed robbery to avoid the death penalty. He was sentenced to six consecutive life sentences as well as two 12-month sentences for carrying unlicensed and concealed weapons.

Officer Gregory White was only 22 years old. He was a dedicated officer who served with the Atlanta Police Department for ten months. Within his community, Officer White was a well-liked, respected, and highly regarded officer, serving on the Mayor of Atlanta's detail. Before becoming a law enforcement officer, he had served as a missionary in Paraguay and Uruguay. More importantly, Greg White was a devoted son, husband, and father to a six-week-old daughter when he was murdered.

This inmate's violent behavior should preclude any parole consideration. Cold-blooded murderers of public safety officials should never be considered for release.

Parole is a privilege and not a right. As a concerned citizen and in the interest of public safety, I again respectfully ask that you DENY PAROLE to inmate #0000384668. Justice demands that he spend every remaining day of his FULL LIFE SENTENCE in prison.
