| Constable George Stanfield British Columbia Provincial Police British Columbia End of Watch: Thursday, June 10, 1920 Biographical Info Age: Not available Tour of Duty: Not available Badge Number: Not available Incident Details Cause of Death: Gunfire Date of Incident: Thursday, June 10, 1920 Weapon Used: Not available Suspect Info: Not available Constable George Stanfield was assigned to the Grand Forks station for the previous five years. In the early morning hours of June 10th, 1920 he was off duty and was walking through the front door of his house . A suspect was waiting inside to ambush him and shot him dead just inside the front door. His wife, who was sleeping upstairs, ran down to see what was happening but Cst. Stanfield was already dead and the suspect had fled. Luckily the suspect did not harm Cst. Stanfield's wife and young daughter who was also sleeping upstairs. It is strongly believed the suspect was a local bootlegger as Cst. Stanfield had made several large liquor seizures recently and smuggling liquor across the border was a very lucrative crime at the time.
Despite an extensive investigation and a large reward his murderer was never found. The case remains unsolved.
Cst. Stanfield was an Army veteran having seen service in the Sudan, India and South Africa.
