![]() | Constable Harry Westaway Biographical Info Incident Details Constable Westaway was shot and killed as he and fellow officer Constable Gordon Ross took on an undercover assignment to capture some elusive thieves who had continually outsmarted the local Constable. It was not due to the local Constables inability, but rather due to the thieves expertise and experience that they required a special assignment to put an end to their activity. Unfortunately this cost Constable Westaway his life. His partner Constable Gordon Ross was able to subdue and apprehend the killer after a fierce physical confrontation. The murderer was a man sought by police in the United States and Canada for several crimes including murder. The murderer, had a number of aliases had become known to law enforcement across the west as The Flying Dutchman. It was due to his ability to commit crimes and disappear without a trace. His accomplice who was later captured, testified against him in a plea bargain. The killer was hanged for the murder of Constable Westaway and several other offenses. At his trial an officer from the State of Washington stood ready to take him into custody for the murder of the Postmaster in that state if he was acquitted for his crimes in Canada.
