Assistant Surgeon Flood was with a team of dogsleds from Churchill, Manitoba that were traveling in the north. It was discovered that their ration box had fallen off one of the sleds and Flood circled back to retrieve the parcel.

When Flood did not meet up with the group a search commenced. He was found later frozen to death.
