Constable Arnold died at Duck Lake, NWT. in an uprising which saw the native Indians rebel against the newcomers to their land. This became known as the Battle at Duck Lake. Two other Mounties died in this battle which was one of a few battles which were yet to be fought over the next three months. Constable Arnold was shot in the chest and died 1 day after he suffered the chest injury.

Constable George Garrett died the day after the battle in which Constable Thomas Gibson also died.
